as long as it's black...

March 12, 2010 Bloggies by Steve R.

I wasn't expecting to reach this point until this summer (like closer to the anniversary date), but we're here...

Since launching in June of 2009 the demand for our eurorack enclosures has increased almost exponentially month over month.

The original idea of Monorocket was to offer choice at a competitive price. It gave an opportunity for anyone who said "why don't companies do things like...." to call the shots and have things made the way they wanted. Since then we've made pieces almost entirely designed by one end user to be reproduced for many (Lexington), a handful of pieces with unique features (ie. connections for Reverb tanks, mounts for stacking multiple enclosures, Lexingtons with 3 rows), we've made some design changes (ie abandoning ATA cases) in favor of a common aesthetic, adopted some custom design requests into our regular offerings (ie Gemini) and now - in order to meet the increased demand - I'm making a decision to change Monorockets day to day operation.

Prior to this week Monorocket was set up to run like a "custom shop". The priority was delivering "individualized" pieces. This worked fine until we discovered that most people want more of something that's "similar" than something "unique". Long turn around times have become "a negative" and initially, we compensated for Monorockets shortcomings in ways like: "only selling through dealers" (never direct) and "never charging anything until the product was actually delivered" (even after order cancellations that left us with extra yards of tolex only one person could love ). We only planned on "compensating" temporarily until we were caught up and able to deliver, faster.

Earlier this week Monorocket committed to "meeting demand" by outsourcing the Mission9 to a full service provider. Within a short amount of time - there will be plenty of our most popular enclosure available at the dealers. While this means "greater numbers", it comes at a cost of "limiting options". In order to get a larger number of enclosures at one time, we had to pick the color in advance.

Until further notice the Mission9, Mission6 and Gemini will only be available in Black (tolex swatch below).

After the Mission9 run is successfully complete we will commit either the Mission6 or the Gemini to a large run based on dealer demand. If you're interested in either of these models, contact your dealer so they can forecast their orders with accuracy.

It's my intention to make custom color options available again in the future, but that will depend on the demands of addressing the "unseen" factors that come with making major operational changes like this.

...and if this doesn't work - we'll try something else Laughing

Lastly... I'd like to send a special thanks to all of the existing Monorocket owners including anyone with an enclosure and/or our accessories (distros, PSU's). Appearing in public at meet ups, trade shows, performances and evangelizing in the online forums has been the source of Monorockets success and we appreciate your support.

7's and 11's,

Steve R
